Tagged for Five.

Filed under: tagged for five — ashworth @ 4:06 am

Ok, my main man, Chris Harris over at Infomancy tagged me for five.  So, in no particular order, here are five things that you didn’t know about Justin Ashworth.

1. My older brother Adam and I are both school librarians. I definitely open a lot of eyes when make that revelation to others. Most people cannot get over the fact that we are both in elementary/intermediate settings and have chosen a profession that is highly female dominated. As a 25 year old guy, I take a pretty good ribbing from my friends for my choice of a career. As you can imagine, the dewey decimal jokes are never-ending.

2. I’m a huge hockey fan. I started playing the sport at a very young age on our neighbors pond. When I was old enough to play high school hockey, I played for three years at Notre Dame H.S. in Batavia, NY. I racked up quite a few points my senior year of high school and made the Section Five Senior All-Star Game. Currently, I’m an assistant coach in the school district where I work. I’m trying to convince the head coach to let me do more video analysis with team. I guess that’s what you get when your a librarian in the 21st century, you want to incorporate digital media into all aspects of your life.

3. Chicken wings are my weakness. Some people have a fondness for chocolate, others can’t get by without their coffee. For me, its chicken wings. I’m always in big trouble during football season.  In most restaurants or sports bars, they’re available for 25 cents for Sunday and Monday Night football. I can down quite a few, but I’m not yet ready to challenge Kobayashi.

4.  I grew up on 80 acres of land in a log cabin. Yep, just like Abe Lincoln. I loved every part of having the woods that surrounded my house as my playground. I learned how to drive a four wheeler when I was eight years old.  I conquered the tractor and snowmobile by the time I was nine. I had mastered every ATV or off-road vehicle my parents owned well before the age of sixteen.

5. I’m still addicted to playing video games. I started out with the Atari 2600 then ditched that for the hot craze at the time, the original 8-bit Nintendo. After Nintendo got old, I marched to Toys R’ Us with my piggy bank and bought myself a Sega Genesis complete with two controllers and Sonic the Hedgehog. When that console died from overuse, I returned to Toys R’ Us with some more of my life savings and bought a Sony Playstation. That lasted me for a good three or four years until they released Playstation 2. I had to have one of those. So, it was off to eBay to get a stellar deal on a new PS2. And that’s my current gaming device at the present time. But don’t worry, the Nintendo Wii is on my radar once the price drops.

So there you have it. Five things you now know about Justin Ashworth. I’m not sure enough people read the Libraryland feed to respond if I tag them for five. But, I’m going to attempt to tag Rob Darrow at California Dreamin’. If anyone who reads this wants to tag themselves for five, then go for it! I’d be happy to include your link in this post.
